More than 34 years ago, in 1992, our founder, Eugene Petriella, made the profound act of generosity in donating his kidney to his mother. At the time, living kidney donation was still relatively rare, and Eugene was 1 of just 2,535 people who became living organ donors that year.

While living donation has grown dramatically since 1992, the need for kidneys has grown even faster. Today, more than 95,000 people in the United States are waiting for a kidney transplant, representing nearly 87% of everyone waiting for all organ transplants nationwide. 

That growing need is what inspired the creation of Kidney Angels. We are a welcoming nonprofit dedicated to supporting living kidney donors, transplant recipients, caregivers, and families. Through compassionate guidance and a community built on lived experience, we strive to ensure that no one has to face the kidney donation journey alone.
